Self Care Tips!

February is a month full of fun, love, and celebration, but it is also important to remember that loving others is not the only important kind of love out there. Learning to love is a huge part of growing up and becoming who we truly are, but sometimes it is easier said than done. That is why some of our Panhellenic Delegates from the Panhellenic community here at UTK have come up with some of their favorite ways to take care of themselves and focus on self-love, even when the semester starts getting busy!

Piper Gamble - Tri Delta

"I love taking walks! I listen to music and turn off the world for a bit!"

Elizabeth Haag - Phi Mu

"One thing I do for self-care is go to HotWorx, the gym I am a part of! This really helps me decompress and have time to just work on myself. I also love to journal; I try to journal every morning and night just to clear my head!"

Megan Hardin - AOII

"A lot of times when my social battery is low, I find myself at Lakeshore Park, where I can go sit outside and be by myself while looking over the water and into the mountains in the distance. I turn off social media and either read, color in my coloring book, or do assignments—anything to get myself to focus on one thing."

Mackenzie Macchia - Delta Zeta

"One thing I do for self-care/self-love is go to the gym! It makes me feel good to know I'm taking care of my body and getting my blood pumping. I always feel great after a nice workout."

Brenna Reed - Kappa Kappa Gamma

"My favorite self-care and self-love thing to do is to paint my nails with gel polish while watching one of my favorite movies or TV shows. This time is very relaxing, and I feel refreshed after. Plus, I feel put together with having my nails done for the next two weeks!"

Laurel Kim - Delta Gamma

"I love to clean my room when I'm stressed! It gives me something to do to get my mind off of the stress, and at the end of it all, I have a nice clean space to get back to work."

Alexis Gallagher - Sigma Kappa

"When I am having a hard day, my favorite thing to do for myself is to actively make self-care a priority for a night. For me, this includes fully cleaning my space, almost as a reset. Then I like to put in a hair mask and listen to good music while I relax before my shower. After my shower, I like to come back into my clean space and get some good sleep. This routine makes me feel productive and sets me up for a successful following day!"

Jersei Bradshaw - Kappa Delta

"One thing I love doing as a form of self-care is exercising and eating nutritious foods! I think keeping our bodies healthy is so important, especially considering all of the things we use them for! Staying active helps me to feel accomplished and releases lots of endorphins to improve mental health while also increasing physical health! Eating yummy and healthy food helps me feel fueled for all of my endeavors!"

Anna Grace Otvos - Pi Beta Phi

"For self-care, I love to take an everything shower and get into comfy PJs! I also love to go to workout classes to help relieve stress!"

Sophia Say - Alpha Chi Omega

"My form of self-care/self-love is hanging out with my friends. Just making dinner together, watching a movie, and having a chill night in is the best thing to me. It makes me so happy to be with them and just getting to hang out with them, especially if I am stressed about something or just finished a big exam."

Anna Jane Snyder - Chi Omega

"I love to read at night before bed! This is silly, but it's self-care because it clears my mind and is something I do alone!"

Ailcy McGill - Zeta Tau Alpha

"I often use cleaning my room as a form of self-care and self-love because in my extremely busy day-to-day life, it is often something I disregard. When my room is cluttered, my life is cluttered too. I have found that if I take the time to organize my space, I am much more productive and I am able to clearly focus on other tasks that need to be done!"

Katie Witherow - Alpha Delta Pi

"One thing I do for my self-care/self-love is working out and being active! With a busy and, at times, stressful schedule, prioritizing alone time working out and moving my body is something that relaxes me and relieves my stress."
